Owens Corning Shingle Repair: The Fresno Owner’s Guide
Owens Corning shingle repair in Fresno typically runs $425 to $1,150 installed, depending on how many shingles failed, whether the underlayment underneath is still sound, and how steep your roof is. We stock Owens Corning-compatible shingles on the truck and can match most common colors and profiles the same week we look at the job. Most Fresno homeowners discover a failed shingle the morning after a windstorm, when they find a torn tab in the flower bed or a dark patch on the roof where granules have washed away.
If you’re holding a cracked shingle or staring at a bare spot on your roof, the good news is this: a small Owens Corning repair done right costs a fraction of a full reroof, and it can buy you years of service if the surrounding shingles are still holding their granules. The bad news is that a bad patch job, one where the sealant strip is broken or the nails are driven wrong, will leak and keep leaking. That’s the difference between a repair that lasts and one you’ll be calling about again next winter. Travis Oakley has seen enough Fresno roofs to know which one you’re going to get from a crew that doesn’t carry the right parts.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To
Owens Corning sells three main asphalt shingle lines you’ll find on Fresno homes: the Duration series (their architectural laminate, often marketed as Duration STORM or Duration FLEX), the Oakridge series (a step-down architectural shingle), and the older Supreme three-tab line that’s still on a lot of original 1990s roofs around town. Each line has a different exposure width and tab geometry, so a repair shingle has to match the profile, not just the color. A Duration shingle will not lay flat against an Oakridge field, and a three-tab Supreme patch on an architectural roof looks wrong from the curb and seals poorly.
Here’s the part most people miss: Owens Corning changes color names and granule blends over time. A “Driftwood” Duration from 2015 is not the same tone as a “Driftwood” Duration from 2023. We carry factory-bundled materials and also keep a few open bundles of discontinued colors in our Fresno shop for exactly this reason. If we can’t match the color within a shade that disappears from the ground, we’ll tell you that before we put a nail in the roof. Independent service provider, full stop, we buy materials from Owens Corning distribution but we are not an Owens Corning dealer or corporate affiliate.
When you call, have your original shingle bundle wrapper if you saved one, it’s the fastest way to identify the exact product. If you don’t have the wrapper, a photo of the shingle edge and a measurement of the exposed tab will usually get us there. We also repair and service GAF and CertainTeed shingle systems, so if you’re not sure what’s on your roof, we can identify it in the first ten minutes on site.

Signs Your Owens Corning Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter or at the downspout splash block. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, but a sudden heavy accumulation after a storm usually means impact damage or a manufacturing defect. When the granule layer goes, the asphalt below oxidizes fast in Fresno’s UV-heavy summers.
- A shingle tab that’s cracked, curled, or missing entirely. Wind is the usual culprit for lifted tabs, but long-term curling at the corners signals that the shingle has dried out and lost flexibility. Once a tab breaks, water has a direct path to the underlayment.
- Dark staining on the ceiling or a water spot in the attic after rain. By the time water shows up inside, the leak has usually been working through the roof assembly for a while. The damaged shingle might be several feet uphill from the stain.
- Shingles that feel spongy underfoot or that you can see sagging between rafters. That means the decking underneath has absorbed moisture and is losing its rigidity. A shingle repair here will involve replacing a section of sheathing, not just slapping on a patch.
- Lifted shingles along the rake edge or ridge after a wind event. The seals that lock shingle tabs together fail first at the most exposed edges. If you can hear shingles flapping on a breezy day, the sealant strip is gone and the next Santa Ana event will peel them back.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Repair Scope | Typical Price Range (Fresno) | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| 1-3 shingles, no decking damage | $425 – $625 | Matching Owens Corning shingles, sealant, nails, 30-60 minute repair |
| 4-12 shingles, scattered damage | $625 – $895 | Larger patch, seal inspection on surrounding tabs, granule cleanup from gutters |
| Shingle plus decking repair | $895 – $1,150 | Shingle replacement plus new OSB or plywood section, underlayment, flashing check |
The range is driven by three things: how many shingles failed, whether the roof decking under them is still sound, and roof pitch. A walkable 4:12 rancher in the Tower District costs less to work on than a steep 8:12 two-story in Woodward Park, because we set up safety equipment differently and work slower. Every Brennan Roofing repair quote is a written, line-item price before any work starts. The number on that paper is the number you pay, and it includes materials, labor, cleanup, and disposal. We don’t add a change order at the door unless we find structural damage we couldn’t see from the ground, and then we stop and show you the issue before we proceed. All work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Plain as that.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely identify what’s wrong without getting on a ladder: take photos of the damaged area from the ground, check your gutters for granule buildup, and note where interior water stains line up with roof features like vents or valleys. That’s genuinely useful information to have when you call us, and it helps us bring the right materials the first time. What you shouldn’t do is climb onto a Fresno roof in summer. Roof surfaces here hit 150 degrees in July, the shingles get slippery with loose granules, and most roof injuries happen to homeowners, not roofers. If your roof pitch is steep enough that you’d feel uneasy standing on it, that’s your judgment telling you something worth hearing.
Walking on a shingle roof you’re trying to repair can also do more damage than the original problem. Every footstep grinds granules off, and a misplaced step on a hot shingle will crack a second tab and double your repair bill. If you want to send us photos first, call (559) 785-2160 and describe what you see. Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means. We’ll let you know if it’s urgent or if it can wait a few weeks, and what the likely repair looks like before we ever set a ladder against your house.
FAQs
A properly installed repair on an otherwise healthy roof lasts 10 to 15 years in the Central Valley, which is roughly the remaining life of the surrounding shingles anyway. The repair is only as good as the roof around it, if the rest of the field has lost its granules, you’re patching a coat that’s already worn out. Call (559) 785-2160 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether repair makes sense or whether you’re better off planning for replacement.
No, individual asphalt shingles can’t be repaired, only replaced. Once the asphalt layer is cracked or the fiberglass mat is exposed, the shingle is structurally done. The repair is removing the damaged shingle, checking the underlayment beneath it, and installing a matching replacement. The surrounding shingles can often be resealed at the same time, which is a small add-on that extends the life of the whole slope.
Most Owens Corning shingle repairs on a walkable roof take 30 to 90 minutes on site. If we need to replace decking or repair underlayment, figure two to three hours. You’ll get a written price before we start, and we don’t leave until the work area is cleaned up and the gutters are clear of the debris we knocked loose.
We carry the most common Owens Corning Duration and Oakridge colors in our Fresno shop, and we can usually match older or discontinued colors within a day or two through our local suppliers. If you have a bundle wrapper or a photo of your roof, send it over before we come out and we’ll bring the right match on the first trip. Estimates are free, and the price goes in writing before any work begins.
