IKO Ridge Vent Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

We install IKO ridge vent systems across Fresno, and a typical ridge vent replacement or new installation runs $650 to $1,400 depending on ridge length and decking condition. Most jobs are completed same day once we’re on the roof. Homeowners usually find out their ridge vent has failed one of two ways: they see granule-heavy water staining on ceiling drywall near interior walls, or they climb up for gutter cleaning and notice the vent material has gone brittle, cracked, or lifted away from the ridge line under the cap shingles.

Call (559) 785-2160

Ridge vent failure is quiet. It doesn’t leak dramatically like a missing shingle. It lets moisture into the attic slowly, and by the time the stain shows through, the sheathing underneath has often been wet for months. Fresno’s summer heat is the main culprit in the Valley: attic temperatures regularly exceed 140 degrees here, and IKO’s older polypropylene vent profiles, especially the original IKO Ventilation ridge products installed on homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s, get cooked until the plastic turns brittle and cracks at the nail line. We replace them regularly in Woodward Park, Fig Garden, and Clovis-adjacent neighborhoods where IKO shingles were common in that era.

Tell me what you’re seeing and I’ll tell you what it actually means. That’s how Travis Oakley puts it when a homeowner calls describing attic heat or moisture. We’ll walk through what you’re looking at before we ever put a ladder up.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

The short answer: if your home has IKO asphalt shingles and a ridge vent, the vent itself is almost always a universal-profile piece that works across IKO’s Cambridge, Dynasty, Marathon, and Nordic lines. IKO doesn’t manufacture a locked-in vent that only fits one shingle series. What matters more is the ridge cap configuration and the width of the vent profile, not the shingle name printed on the bundle wrapper.

That said, there’s one compatibility gotcha specific to IKO roofs worth knowing. IKO’s newer Marathon Ultra and Dynasty lines use a slightly thicker laminated shingle than Cambridge. When an older low-profile vent is paired with those thicker caps, the cap shingles can bridge over the vent channel and pinch off airflow. We see it in Fresno on 2015-and-newer builds where the roofer used a generic 9-inch vent under a thick IKO cap. The fix is selecting the right vent height for the shingle profile, and we carry multiple profiles on the truck so we can match it correctly the first trip.

On OEM versus aftermarket: IKO-branded vent products, like the IKO Ventilation Ridge Vent, are simply private-labeled versions of standard polypropylene and foam ridge rolls. Aftermarket equivalents from GAF, Owens Corning, or CertainTeed are dimensionally interchangeable in nearly every case. We source from all four. What you’re paying for with a quality job isn’t a logo on the vent; it’s correct height matching, proper end-cap sealing, and nail placement that won’t crack under cap shingle movement. That’s the part that actually leaks.

Signs Your IKO Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Interior ceiling stains near upper-floor walls or at ridge-line closets. This is the classic slow-moisture signature. Water enters at the ridge, follows rafter edges, and shows up as faint tan or rust-colored rings far from the source. By the time you see it, the vent has likely been compromised for at least one rainy season.
  • Attic feels like an oven in the evening, not just at noon. A functioning ridge vent pulls hot air out continuously. When the vent is crushed, blocked, or separated from the ridge, heat stores in the sheathing and radiates back down after dark. If your upstairs hallway is warm at 9 p.m. in July, that’s a ventilation problem, not an insulation problem.
  • Visible cracks or sagging along the vent line when viewed from the ground or ladder. Fresno UV exposure is unrelenting. IKO polypropylene vents installed 15-plus years ago get chalky and brittle. You’ll see hairline cracks radiating from nail heads or the vent material cupping between fasteners.
  • Cap shingles lifting or showing rust at the ridge. If the vent has degraded, cap shingles lose their backing support and start flapping. Rust at nail heads means moisture is present at the ridge, which means the underlayment underneath has already been wet at least once.
  • Higher cooling bills without any change in occupancy or equipment. A failed vent pushes attic temps from a controlled 130-ish degrees to 160-plus. That heat load soaks through your insulation and forces the AC to run longer. It’s a slow bleed, but it’s real money in Fresno summer rates.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard single-family home in Fresno with 30 to 50 linear feet of ridge, IKO-compatible ridge vent replacement runs $650 to $1,400 fully installed. The spread comes from three things: how much of the old vent has to be removed, whether the underlying decking is rotted and needs spot replacement, and the shingle profile on the cap. A simple vent swap under a Cambridge roof with clean decking lands at the lower end. A Dynasty or Marathon Ultra roof that needs vent height correction and some deck repair sits at the upper end.

Every Brennan Roofing Co Fresno estimate includes the written number before any work starts. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it doesn’t move at the door. The price covers removal of the old vent, inspection of the exposed decking, installation of the correct-profile ridge vent, new cap shingles matched to your IKO color as closely as possible, and sealing at all end caps. We don’t change the price once we’re on the roof unless you ask us to add scope. If we find rot, we show you a photo, tell you the exact cost to fix it, and you decide before we cut anything.

All work carries a full year warranty in writing, and we come back free if it fails within that period. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things from the ground or a ladder without calling anyone. Look for visible cracking along the ridge. Count your linear feet of ridge and measure the vent width you can see at the gable end if you have one. Note the age of the roof if you know it. That information helps us give you a tighter estimate over the phone.

What you shouldn’t do is peel back cap shingles and try to reseat the vent yourself. Ridge cap removal without the right technique damages the cap shingles you need to reuse, and working at the peak of a Fresno roof in July is not the place to learn roofing. Falls from ridge height are the most common residential roofing injury, and heat exhaustion sneaks up fast on a tile or shingle surface. We’re background-checked, uniformed, and we do this every day. If you want to check it yourself, we’ll respect that. If you want it done right the first trip, call (559) 785-2160.
